5 Head Scarf Outfit Ideas for Summer

What's the perfect summer look? Something colorful, breezy, ethereal, graceful, and all around beautiful. Just think: a billowy sundress that pairs exquisitely with cool drinks on a sunny patio, or even the quintessential shorts-and-flip-flops combo for lounging poolside. We've said it before, and we'll say it again: trotting out in a lovely new summer outfit is a wonderful way to embrace the coming season! One easy and unexpected way to take your summer wardrobe to the next level is the addition of a head scarf.

Why wear head scarves? There are so many reasons, but above all else, they are super stylish. Just the simple addition of a scarf can take an outfit from bland to brilliant. Head scarves had a huge presence on the runway this year from designers and fashion houses like Tom Ford, Kate Spade, and more. Flowing and airy, head scarves add undeniable air of grace and elegance to any look.

This beautiful fashion trends also calls to mind retro style icons such as Audrey Hepburn, Jackie O, Brigitte Bardot, and the like. Vintage and mysterious, head scarves can add a unique and memorable twist to your look.

However, as with any piece of clothing, it can be hard to know what to pair with your head scarf. The good news? Head scarves are actually super versatile. We're created five different looks to inspire you, give you ideas, and help you effortlessly incorporate headscarves into your summer wardrobe. Let's get started.

Head Scarf Outfit Idea #1: Elegant Monochrome

Olive green head scarf with matching olive green jumpsuit, leaf motif sterling silver earrings, tortoise shell sunglasses, and platform sandals.

Monochrome dressing can be defined as wearing a single color or shades of a single color all over. It can also be defined as high fashion; monochrome looks totally swept the runway this season.

Monochrome dressing is exceptionally easy because all you have to do is pick a color and run with it. Red, blue, green, purple it doesn't matter which. In the look above, we paired a solid olive green jumpsuit with our All Cotton Solid Square Head Scarf in Olive Khaki. The resulting look is stylish, chic, and understated. Finish it off with a pair of strappy sandals and our Sterling Silver Jadeite Leaf Earrings.

Head Scarf Outfit Idea #2: Perfect Match

Pineapple print pretied head scarf with matching pineapple print t-shirt, teal shorts, gold hoop earrings, flip flops, and a natural beach bag.

This look was created with the same concept as the monochromatic look. However, instead of choosing a single color, we chose a single pattern. The finished outfit has a polished, preppy, and ultra fun vibe.

For this look, we used our Bamboo Easy On Pre-Tied Scarf in Pina Colada, Bamboo Loralai T-Shirt in Pina Colada, and Bamboo Karla Shorts in Pacific Blue to create a beachy, laid back vibe. Our silky-soft, extra breathable bamboo line also features tons of other patterns to choose from, making matching an absolute breeze. For a summertime look, wear your coordinated outfit with a pair of flip-flops and our Gold Beaded Drop Hoop Earrings.

Head Scarf Outfit Idea #3: Pattern Mixing

Blue tie dye headscarf with blue ditsy floral print caftan dress, white crocheted earrings, white crochet tote bag, and white slip on sandals.

While the first two outfits follow the same train of thought, this outfit runs in the opposite direction. Instead of picking patterns and color that perfectly match, this outfit features different yet complimentary patterns to create a unique and interesting look.

Pattern mixing can be a little tricky, but there are a couple tricks you can follow to make it easier. First, choose a pattern to focus on. This will be the statement of the outfit. The other patterns are meant to compliment the focus pattern and should be smaller in scale. Then, you'll want to pick prints that have similar colors. In the outfit above, the Tie Dye Scarf in blue is the main pattern, and the blue ditsy floral dress is complimentary. We paired this outfit with basic white sandals and our Rhea Beaded Crochet Hoop Earrings to add to the boho vibe without being overwhelming.

Head Scarf Outfit Idea #4: Classic & Cool

Blue and green woodblock head scarf, denim chambrey shirt, white linen pants, white slide sandals, sunglasses, and green natural stone earrings.

This look is all about pairing a vibrant headscarf with timeless, basic pieces. In this outfit, we used a classic denim chambray button-up top, white linen pants, and our Oversized Cotton Woodblock Head Scarf. Creating an outfit like this really allows the headscarf to pop. We finished off this style with our Chalcedony Stone Gold-Plated Earrings for a super smart look.

Head Scarf Outfit Idea #5: Bold & Bright

Colorful butterfly print silk head scarf, yellow sun dress, saddle colored belt, saddle colored high heeled sandal shoes, cream short sleeve cardigan, and natural woven earrings.

To create this look, we paired a bold patterned headscarf with a solid bright colored dress. Combining bold with bright creates a striking look that is ideal for summer.

This look features our Pure Silk Head Scarf in Saddle Butterfly and our Woven Wicker Drop Earrings.
