Help Mom Mix It Up on Mother's Day

Mother’s Day. Of course, it’s a day to celebrate your mom! It’s a day to let your mom know how much you appreciate her – how special she is, how supportive she is, how selfless she’s been to you throughout her life. To thank her for bringing you into and up in the world. One very special mom, Carol Galland, played a foundational role in Headcovers.com’s 30-year history, so it’s only fitting that we take a look at Mother’s Day this year.

On Mother’s Day, people recognize their moms in a host of different ways. Some people “give mom the day off,” taking care of all the little – and sometimes big – things their mom does daily the rest of the 364 days. Other people indulge Mom, giving her an experience like a spa day or a meal at a nice restaurant. Still others try to echo their mom’s beauty, presenting her with such things as a colorful bouquet of her favorite flowers or planting a tree or flowering shrub in the garden in her honor. And then there are the many unique and personal Mother’s Day gifts one can come up with that say “Mom” to them.

Most people shopping for Mom here on Headcovers.com are doing so for a very specific reason: their mom is battling cancer or some other thinning hair or hair loss condition. We have over 10,000 different headcover items, so you’re bound to find at least one that’s right for your mom! Even if your mother isn’t dealing with one of these situations, though, you can still introduce a different kind of Mother’s Day gift experience to her this year: an instant whole new look.

Whether Mom is bald or has a full head of hair, you can help Mom mix it up this Mother’s Day with wigs! Think about it: wigs can create entirely different looks on a person. Costumers fit actors with wigs all the time to “complete the character.” Many celebrities don different wigs to showcase different, fast-changing looks. And a few celebs even made wigs into a business! Here on Headcovers.com, for example, we sell celebrity-branded wigs such as Rachel Welch, Eva Gabor, and Vivica Fox.

Putting on different wigs and other hair accessories like wig toppers, updo wigs, wiglets, fringe bangs, and extensions is both experiential and experimental.

Different colors, different lengths, different styles, and different textures all lend themselves to a kind of metamorphosis. This kind of exercise can evoke different feelings. It can be playful and fun; it can be interesting and eye-opening; and it can be energizing and uplifting. Mom can pretend to be a different person for a day. If Mom is also bald from battling cancer, you can plan a little at-home “hair salon” activity for Mother’s Day, having her try on several new – and perhaps less conventional – wigs and/or hair halos. Have her “walk the runway” and model her wigs. I bet the experience lifts up her mood.

A “wiggy” Mother’s Day doesn’t have to break the bank either. A dozen roses can cost $50 - $150 or more and will only live about a week. There is a good selection of unique wigs and hair accessories that you can choose from in a similar price range, and Mom can wear them for as long as she likes. Perhaps even choose more than one. This is your mom after all, and if she’s fighting cancer, she’s in a really challenging battle right now. Isn’t it totally worth it to not only put a smile on her face, but to also show her some fun?

Hats off to you and your mom this Mother’s Day! Here’s to many, many more together.
