How to Look Like You're Having a Bad Hair Day When You Really Have No Hair!

Let’s be real. Most women who are losing or have lost their hair – from cancer treatment, alopecia, or thinning hair – struggle to embrace their baldness. More power to the women who have chosen to walk around proudly exposing their bald pate. But for the rest of those who don’t have the same courage or comfort, headcoverings such as wigs, caps, hats, and scarves have been the solutions of choice.

On any given day, which headcovering a thinning hair or hairless woman chooses may vary based on a few factors: time, temperature, mood, outfit, comfort. Time, because they may be in a hurry so being able to just grab something and go is the best choice. Temperature, because the weather can play a role in deciding whether to choose something lightweight or warmer. Mood…well, that needs no explanation. Outfit may dictate a choice that’s coordinated.

Comfort, on the other hand, has more than one meaning. The selection may literally be more comfortable on one’s bald head, but comfort can also mean, “I feel better about myself wearing this particular kind of headcover.” For example, I know a few women and have spoken to even more for whom only a wig would do if they were going out of their house, especially to someplace in public. They didn’t want strangers to know they were battling cancer or some other kind of condition – they just wanted to look as close to their “normal” selves as possible.

In this day and age, however, the coiffed style of some wigs doesn’t actually look like those normal selves. It’s more common for many women to go about their ordinary lives with a more, shall we say, running-out-of-the-house or just-left-the-gym look. You know this look: their hair is up in a ponytail, jaw clip, tucked under a baseball cap, or held back with a headband. This somewhat tousled, bad hair day look is everywhere, from the office to the grocery store. It’s not only perfectly acceptable, but also totally mainstream!

If you are woman used to the quickie ‘do, fear not! You may not have been aware of this before, but there are wig products that help you achieve this “bad hair day” look…and they look amazing! Let’s go over a few now.

Headband Wigs

Headband wigs are wigs made to look like you’re wearing a headband. They come in multiple styles, from mid-length beachy waves to short bobs to long hair. What’s great about them is that, as with real hair, you don’t have to fuss with how perfect this wig’s hair might look on any given day. Just throw it on and go!

Ponytail Headbands for Baseball Caps

Another go-to look for normal bad hair days is the baseball cap, but when you have no hair, baseball caps alone can just look…well, like you’re bald and covering up your head. Instead, check out this ingenious ponytail headband! Available in more than a dozen hair colors, this ponytail and its matching tendrils are affixed to a headband but can be detached for easy washing. You can choose whatever style of baseball cap you’d like to wear over it. Just put on your ponytail headband, your favorite cap, and head out the door!

Baseball Caps with Built-In Hair

Another bad-hair-day fake-out is the baseball cap with built-in hair. They too come in multiple hair colors, lengths, and hairstyles. Super-easy and low-maintenance, this grab-and-go headcover option has it all.
